Get a free PDF printing program such as Cute PDF or Nitro PDF. Cute installs as a printer but it prints your to a .pdf file. Your scanner software should mayalso scan your your document to a pdf file.

"Foxit".

The installer comes with 'Ask' toolbar, which you may not want: keep an eye out for it near the end of the install process.

Uncheck those items you don't want.

Otherwise it's a dandy PDF toolbox.

Here ya' go:

Just get the free reader, not the other added stuff.

The fast way would be to go to a copy shop and have them scan it in and give them the email address to send it to.

Your scanner should have its own software, but most just generate a picture then use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to convert it to text.

If you know someone that works in a business office, they usually have commercial copiers that can copy/scan/fax/email/store documents in just about any format.

Why not just scan it and send the image file? If the recipient has OCR software then they can turn it into text or make it into a PDF themselves.

If you want, and you've got MS Office you can do both yourself and for free.

If Document Imaging or OCR for MS Office isn't already installed then go to MS Office in Add/Remove Programs, click on change the installation and install it. See http://www.google.com/search?q=ms+office+ocr for more help.

In MS Office 2010, OneNote already has OCR capability. simply drag the image into OneNote, right click on it and choose "Copy Text from Picture".

For the PDF creator in MS Office download this - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4d951911-3e7e-4ae6-b059-a2e79ed87041 If you're using MS Office 2010 it should already be installed.

Your scanner may have come with both capabilities as well. Mine came with a full version of Textbridge, which is great.
