You can not.

If the scanner doesn't support negative films (If that what you mean), Don't waste your time

BUT

If you want to convert the colors of scanned image to negative, it is easy to do in any image program

To scan a file negative on an scanner that does not have a back light. you will need to supply your own back light.

A desk lap will do, just leave the scanner door open, and place the lap few inches above the negative.

For the better result put something translucent, a filter, over the negative to spread the light across the negative uniformly. Simplest filter can be a black white paper.

It sounds like the Epson 4990 is favourite, yet I have the Nikon Coolscan-V ED and prefer it. you are able to experiment as a lot as 4800 dpi in case you prefer to. This enables plenty once you bypass to reomve the dirt and fingerprints, yet I in person-friendly words bypass to possibly 600 an excellent style of the time. examine expenses. it is a great scanner and in case you locate it more low-cost than the Epson, purchase it. otherwise, who am I to talk out adversarial to three sturdy ideas???
