I really want to scan my childhood negative photos but don't see point in buying a scanner for about $100, because once I scan them I won't need the machine anymore and the quality of the scanner might not be that good for a cheap one and there are professionals who do it for about $1 per photo but I have 1000's and gets too expensive.

I don't know about New Zealand but in the UK almost any photo shop will convert negatives to digital. They won't cost $1 a slide but something like $20 per hundred. They have automated machines to do it.

The quality may vary slightly from different shops but not by much.

If you want the resulting pictures cleaned up then that will cost real money!

But I would also advise that you buy a scanner. Almost any scanner will do it manually. Some have special slide feeders to make it easier but they cost a bit more.

I say buy your own film scanner. That would be about 10 cents per to a photo. Then sell the film scanner on ebay to get money back. You could also state barely used as well.

Epson used to offer an dazzling one referred to as the XX5400, which scanned from rollfilm, 5x4" and all different codecs, direct to memory card. I observed one verified approximately 4 years in the past. in case you hit upon out the place they are able to be acquired, enable me be responsive to, as I truthfully have thousands of a hundred and twenty negatives waiting to be digitised. I truthfully have an entire a hundred and twenty coloration darkroom on the marketplace to everybody who remains a believer! If I point out a hundred and twenty in my modern-day photographic circle, all i'm getting are derisive smiles!
