It allows you to scan in pictures and documents. You can then email them to other people, so you can kind of use it like a fax machine, but in color.

TO basically take a "picture" of what ever you're scanning. Just place said item on the bed of the scanner and it works like a copy machine. Once it scans the image it produces a digital copy on your computer which can be saved as a file.
