Cannot open scanned docs with 'microsoft word'?

I open 'photo gallery', I then click on 'Files' I then click on 'Import from Camera or Scanner' I then make relevant changes IE 'documents' instead of 'JPeg' and the rest, then I scan my document into photo gallery. Then I try opening the document with 'Microsoft Word' so that I can edit my document, but it refuses to be opened.
I have all up to date updates installed, I save as a document and not a photo, I changed the default program for opening to 'Word' but it still won't open, displaying the message "Works cannot open 'your document...' The file maybe in use by another application (impossible as I have only just imported it) the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters (but I have latest updates installed) or the file may be corrupt (impossible if it is just a scanned document) Someone please, please help me if you can!

To save you the hassle of trying to figure out why it isn't working, download FreeOCR.

this little software is FREE, works better than those you buy and it installs in minutes. Once installed, just open your jpeg images, click on the MS Word OCR button and it will open the scanned image in Microsoft Word ready to be dited, changed or whatever :)

You can't edit a scanned document with word.

A scanned document is just a photo of text, and not text that a word processor (word) can understand.

What you need to do is install another application (program) called an OCR - Optical Character Recognition.

This program can see the photo of text (your scan) and work out what the words probably are, the result can then be loaded into word and edited.

Your scanner gives you a picture of the text. To turn this into text that Word can edit, you need an OCR (optical character recognition) program. One normally comes bundled with the scanner.

Is this Word 2007?

Even though the menu function to scan directly into Word, & Powerpoint has gone from Office 2007 it is still possible to scan directly into Word. Just keep alt pressed, then i, p, s.
