I have a HP Scanjet G3110 scanner. I have windows 7, which isn’t compatible, but I was still able to go download and install the driver and software. This particular scanner has 4 buttons on it that allow you to instantly scan to a certain format. However, when one of these buttons is pressed, nothing happens! This is a problem because I need to scan documents to pdf. Are there any suggestions to correct this problem?

If you can't find the cause of the problem, then you need to go through basic troubleshooting steps. First, check the cables. Make sure that the scanner is securely connected both to the power and the computer. Also make sure that any power strip they're attached to is turned on. If the cables seem securely attached, then detach them and reattach them. If the scanner is working properly, the the warming lamp will turn on and the carriage will begin to move. If it doesn't, you have a hardware problem. If the scanner does come on, most likely there's a software problem. Uninstall the scanner software in Windows, then reinstall it.

Next, with a Scanjet you generally will not be working from the buttons on the scanner. Instead, you'll mostly likely will want to work with the HP Solution Center. Check HP.com to see if they offer this software for your model Scanjet. Then configure the HP Solution Center to save your scan to a file, and choose PDF as the file format.

Lastly, if you want to scan documents to PDF, you'll need optical character recognition software. This may be included with the HP Solution Center software.

I don't know why you think that your HP Scanjet G3110 isn't compatible with Windows 7, my friend, as there are drivers available, directly from HP (USA) for Windows 7 ... both 32-bit and 64-bit.
