ie Windows Vista etc. My operating system is Windows ME edition. Do you think these scanners would operate on my ME edition (now 9 years old).

Get a HP scanner. The drivers are backward compatible and you should not have any problems whatsoever. The HP G-3110 is a nice inexpensive scanner that even does slides, books etc...
Note... make sure that you have USB support or you will have to use another type of scanner such as a Umax which will work in Windows ME for sure.

The main problem with a scanner is going to be how does it connect. Are you still using a Parallel port?
Can you buy one with that port?
Is it a USB connector?
Windows 2000/ME have problems with USB drivers before you even think about the drivers for the scanner itself.
As said above, do some research on the manufacturers websites to see whats available to you.

You could always change your Operating System.
Have a look at www.ubuntu.com
Ubuntu can connect to pretty much any printer/scanner. It's not like windows though so be prepared to re-learn where buttons are.
I think if you don't make a move to at least Windows 2000 shortly you are going to find a few issues in the future!

My exterior with approximately 3 ft of snow and the sky. If i seem out the window at the back of the place i'm sitting I see greater snow and a few tall bushes that are being blown around by the gusts of wind we are having here at present. Have a stable day and satisfied Spring.

If u cant upgrade your os, you could look for an old parallel flatbed scanner. You can find them really cheap used and they work great with older pcs.

Should not be a problem, if you buy new check the installation disk it will show the op sys. If you are looking on say ebay or .... check the web site of the maker ad see if you can download a driver for ME just in case.

i dont know about the functions of OS u r having, but i can suggest that EPSON has a good model of 3-in-1 printer, scanner, xerox, which u can opt for, instead on spending on scanner, printer, xerox seperately, unless u r onto professional ......

Go to maufacturers web site and see if they have downloadable ME drivers, or check their FAQ's or ask their tech support.
Two or three tries with different manufacturers web sites might be necessary.
Good luck
